Week 5 - Materials in Unreal

I decided I wanted to add the glass textures to the bottles and vases around the room at this point. I used the UE5 material settings to create the glass, however I wasn't happy with how unrealistic the colour and lighting of the glass looked in comparison to the rest of the room.

The material details for both the normal glass and the tinted used for the bottles.


I fixed up the glass by clicking random settings after making a material instance. After this change the glass looked far more realistic, however some objects are now very difficult to see for example: the almost invisible glass jar below the table with the books on it. But since the result was otherwise satisfactory, I left the glass in this state.

I also created a gold texture for my candelabra using the unreal material editor. As well as a plain metal texture that I made to look plastic-like for the crutch.




I had also previously made an emissive texture for the candle flames. I applied it to a 3D teardrop shaped object to imitate a flame.
